Helping Children Cope with Violence: A School-Based Program That Works (pdf)
Violence is one of our most significant public health issues. Children exposed to violence frequently develop post-traumatic stress symptoms. They are more likely to have behavioral problems, poorer school performance, more days of school absence, and feelings of depression and anxiety. School officials are often willing to provide help at school. But these professionals face an important question: What works? There have been no randomized controlled trials of intervention effectiveness with which to answer this question. To fill this gap, a team of clinician-researchers from several institutions collaborated to develop, implement, and evaluate an intervention designed to help children traumatized by violence. The team included professionals from the RAND Corporation, the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

This curriculum comes in two parts and are downloadable as Microsoft Word documents:
Instructor Manual and Student Manual. Although this curriculum is posted on the MINCAVA webite, it is copyrighted and requires the author's permission prior to use. This 12-session curriculum is designed to be used with either mothers who are survivors of Domestic Violence or fathers who are batterers (these mothers and fathers should never be together). The NEATS: A Child & Family Assessment

Family Violence Nursing Curriculum
While nurses must be able to respond skillfully to victims of all types of violence, responding to victims of family violence requires sensitivity rooted in understanding how it differs from other types of violence. DeafHope is a nonprofit organization, established for and by Deaf women in January 2003. Their mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault against Deaf women and children through empowerment, education, services, and they also offer training and technical assistance to other agencies serving Deaf survivors.
