Men Engage (Global)

Men Engage is a consortium of NGOs and agencies throughout the world to promote gender equity and reducing all forms of violence. They work collaboratively with feminist organizations throughout the world. They have many applications on their site including a blog, policy watch option, forum, and a news and events section. They also list training opportunities, publications, and links to other sites.

Men's Resources International (Africa)

Although this group is based in Massachusetts, Men's Resources International is concerned with violence on a global level. Their main focus is the continent of Africa. They have a resource library, offer trainings, and host a discussion board that puts forth a positive image of masculinity.

Oxfam's GEM program (Global)

GEM is Oxfam's Gender Equality and Men program. Oxfam has recognized the need to have men learn concepts of gender equity while empowering women at the same time to ensure and overall change in society. They have developed a guide regarding lessons learned in initiatives they are undertaking and have published a book on men and the issues of reproductive and sexual health; fatherhood; gender-based violence; livelihoods; and work with young men.

Sonke Gender Justice Network (Southern Africa)

This group is dedicated to work on HIV/AIDS, gender equality, and human rights. The have many projects including those involving the eradication of gender violence, xenophobia, and war rape.. They serve the countries of Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi.. This website is also home the .One Man Can. project.. Resources can be found in many languages including English, French, Xhosa, Afrikaans, Zulu, and Venda.

Work Changes Gender(European Union)

(European research project 2001 - 2004)

A team of researchers from Norway, Spain, Austria, Israel, Bulgaria and Germany came together to examine the interaction of between work and gender roles in the European Union. Reports are focused mainly on the impact on masculinity and are offered primarily in English and German.

UNIFEM: Virtual Knowledge Center

UNIFEM's Virtual Knowledge Center to End Violence Against Women has a module that provides guidance on how to engage men and boys in ending violence against women.

Engagingmen.net

Engagingmen.net is designed for practitioners, policy makers, academics, students and all who are interested in effectively working with women and men in partnership for gender equality and addressing the negative consequences of unequal power relationships. Engagingmen.net has a theoretical focus on men, gender, and masculinities and practical focus on initiatives that encourage boys' and men’s involvement and support of women’s empowerment, ending violence, and work towards healthy relationships for all. Engaging boys and men is a strategy that is central to the content of this site, but it is not an end. The goals are gender equality, peace and justice.

 

Australia

Australian Federation of Men's Health and Wellbeing Associations, Inc., Queensland

MHAWQ views itself as a holistic approach towards exploring and developing masculinity. The non-profit organization strives to reach all males through education, retreats, and dialogues. Information found on their site includes articles, web-links, and information about retreats and workshops being held throughout Australia.

MENDS

MENDS, or Men Exploring New Directional Strategies, is a program designed to help fathers who have separated from their partner. The site provides more information about the program and links to book, research, and other relevant resources.

Men's Health Australia

MHA is a partnership involving Men's Health Information & Resource Centre (MHIRC) at the University of Western Sydney, the South Australian Men's Health Alliance (SAMHA) and the Australasian Men's Health Forum (AMHF). The site focuses on the mental well-being of men and boys. It offers related links in the sections: Events, Topics and Issues, Media & News, International Mens Health Week, and Newsletters.It also has features such as a Mythbusters section focusing on gender stereotypes.

Sydney Men's Network (*Link no longer works as of 5/13/11), Sydney

The site acts as and peer-to-peer website for men to re-evaluate their notions of masculinity. The organization believes that men are not oppressed by other groups, but by society that mandates how to men and boys should behave. They believe men have an ability and responsibility of care towards other human beings.

XY magazine

XY is a pro-feminist website that is focused on men, masculinities, and gender politics. XY started as a print magazine and this site offers links to some of its original articles. It also offers additional relevant articles, links to other sites and a searchable Mens Bibliography database. The Mens Bibliography, compiled and maintained by Michael Flood, offers links to 22,400 articles, books, web-sites.

 

Austria

International Society for Men's Health and Gender, Vienna
Headquartered in Vienna, Austria, The International Society for Mens Health and Gender (ISMH) focuses on male specific health issues that occur over the lifespan. This site offers links to the organizations newsletter, journal, information on membership, and updates on activities such as symposia and web-learning opportunities.

Maennerberatung, Graz

This link will take the user to the English version of this site.Maennerberatung offers counseling through its men's center specializing in the areas violence, sexual violence, and abuse. They conduct gender reflecting work with male youth, on media analysis projects, and conduct co-ed gender labs.Their site also offers links to the products of their research institute.

 

Brazil

Promundo

Promundo is a non-governmental organization that seeks to promote gender equality and end violence against women, children, and youth on a local, national, and international scale. Specifically, Promundo works to conduct research, implement and evaluate programs, and to advocate for gender equality in public policies.

 

Canada

White Ribbon Campaign

This site is home of the White Ribbon Campaign, which works to educate men and boys in an effort to end violence against women. This site offers education and a curriculum surrounding the mission of the White Ribbon Campaign. It provides links to White Ribbon Campaigns found in other countries and other international websites focused on violence prevention and eradication.

Project Respect, Victoria, B.C.

Operating out of the Women's Sexual Assault Center in Victoria, BC, Project Respect is aimed at youth ages 14-19. Project Respect works in schools and with educators to change scripts surrounding sexual activity and gender dynamics. They have also produced a number of products, such as posters, booklets, and videos, targeted at the teen demographic.

West Coast LEAF Project, Victoria, B.C.

The West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) seeks gender equity for all Canadian people through litigation and legal education. Educational programs include Transforming Our Future, No Means No, Youth in the Workplace, and a Speakers Bureau.

 

Finland

Gender Equality in Finland, Helsinki

This link will connect the user with the English version of Finland's Office of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. This office houses the Ombudsman for Equality, The Gender Equality Unit, The Council for Gender Equity, and The Equality Boards. The Equality Policy tab links to reports on Men and Gender Equality Policy as well as other reports on gender equality in Finland.

Miessakit, Helsinki

This is the link to the English translation of a Finish non-governmental organization designed to support men in striving for gender equality. It also offers mutual and peer-to-peer support on fatherhood, divorce, relationship violence, and gender dynamics.

 

India

South Asian Network to Explore Masculinities

The South Asian Network to Address Masculinities (SANAM) is a network of NGOs (national and regional), academics and activists who believe that the toxicity of masculinities needs to be challenged if we are to dream of a violence free world. Masculinities and violence, it has been suggested, are inextricably linked in creating and maintaining all forms of inequalities. SANAM provides a platform for all people to work together in developing a culture of resistance to gender based violence.

 

Ireland

Rape Crisis Network Ireland, Galway

The Rape Crisis Network acts as an education and training resource for the rape crisis centers in Ireland. They act as a bridge across agencies and provide the general public a bridge to sexual assault services. They also compile research and national reports on sexual violence.

Sexual Violence Centre Cork, Cork

This website was formerly known as the Cork Rape Crisis Centre. It continues to act as a homepage for the Centre. It includes links and information about other agencies in Ireland that engage in response to interpersonal violence. The site also acts as the portal to the Cork Campaign to STOP Sex Trafficking which is run by the Centre.

 

New Zealand

Auckland Rape Crisis, Auckland

This organization provides rape prevention education and outreach with a gender-neutral approach. It strives to provide culturally supportive services for Pacific Island, Asian, and Maori populations. It is home to the Tiaki Tinana approach to rape prevention which utilizes the Maori perspective.

 

South Africa

Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust, Cape Town

Rape Crisis works with individuals, communities, and legislative bodies. They provide advocacy and counseling services to victims of sexual assault and their friends and family. They lobby for changes in legislation and work collaboratively with the criminal justice system and community agencies. They have developed several programs targeting different aspects of violence, including a "Stop the Bus" tour. Their site also includes contact information for rape and domestic violence centers throughout South Africa.

Rape Outcry, South Africa

Rape Outcry is working to end sexual violence through education, research, and media. They are working closely with the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University on a campaign targeted at 13-30 students. The campaign uses art, drama, and writing to educate and engage. In addition to outlining their campaign, the web-site offers resources for victims, links to events, and research specific to South Africa

 

Spain

Men for Gender Equality Program, Xerez

This Spanish language site contains an events calendar and maintains an extensive bibliography on gender violence. The bibliography provides links to research and articles on violence with an emphasis on gender as it relates to a multitude of Spanish-speaking populations, ie: Spanish, Basque, Latino/a, and Chicano/a. Different constructs of masculinity and machismo are also a topic frequently explored in the links to the literature provided.

 

United Kingdom

Colchester Rape Crisis Center

This is the homepage for the Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse (CARA).. In addition to offering comprehensive services educational and advocacy services to victims, they offer education for friends, family, and the general public.. The site has specific topic pages which include topics such as self-harm, feminism, childhood sexual abuse, and ritual sexual abuse.

Survivor Help

This site acts as a gateway to more than sixty chat rooms for survivors of different types of sexual abuse and their partners. It also features links to other chat rooms focused on mental health issues that can be initiated or exacerbated by trauma. Additionally, links to full text articles from scholarly journals can be found.

Working with Men, London

This project works with communities throughout the UK to promote healthy development of boys and young men. Special programs include those for expectant teen fathers, new young fathers, and any parent raising boys. Working with Men explores masculinities and how they intersect with health, sexuality, criminality, race, class, ethnicity, culture, and geography.
