Edleson, Ph.D., works to increase knowledge on violence against women and children through research, education and free access to high-quality information. MINCAVA staff have been busy creating new online and print materials related to violence against women and children. Our most recent materials include:
1. Parenting by Men Who BatterEdleson and Prof. Oliver Williams, Director of the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community, have co-edited a new book entitled Parenting by Men Who Batter: New Directions for Assessment and Intervention (2007, Oxford University Press). The book includes chapters by a diverse set of authors from three countries who are defining this area of work. You can read more about this book at: http://www.us.oup.com/us/brochure/interpersonalviolence/ 2. Digital Stories of Parenting and Domestic ViolenceFive digital stories focused on parenting as a perpetrator of domestic violence or parenting with a perpetrator of domestic violence were recently developed and published by MINCAVA. These stories were created by survivors and past perpetrators during two separate workshops held by MINCAVA in consultation with the Center for Digital Storytelling during October 2005. The stories are available for download at http://www.mincava.umn.edu/library/multimedia/ and can be used at training or public awareness events. 3. Online Learning Module on Working with Violent FathersA new Online Learning Module entitled, Responsible Fathering: Intervention at the Intersection of Woman Abuse and Child Maltreatment has recently been created and published by MINCAVA. The case study was commissioned by MINCAVA and was written by Dr. Katreena Scott and Jennifer Root. The module has tree parts: Considering a Program for Fathers who have Maltreated their Children or Abused their Children's Mothers; Clinical Issues in Offering a Program for Fathers who have Maltreated their Children or Abused their Children's Mothers; and The Role of Programs for Abusive Fathers in a Broader Community Response to Family Violence. This module, along with two previously published modules, is available at http://www.globalvp.umn.edu/cgi-bin/index.pl All three of these parenting focused projects were supported with funding from the David & Lucile Packard Foundation. 4. Child Exposure to Domestic Violence ScaleMINCAVA has just released the Child Exposure to Domestic Violence (CEDV) Scale that is the first such measure to directly monitor child exposure and involvement in adult domestic violence events. The measure, a 55-page User Manual, several articles about the measure and other supporting materials are available online at: http://www.mincava.umn.edu/cedv/ 5. Encyclopedia of Interpersonal ViolenceEdleson and Prof. Claire Renzetti from the University of Dayton are co-editing the Encyclopedia of Interpersonal Violence (EIPV) for Sage Reference. The two-volume EIPV has over 500 entries and 350 authors and will be released in June 2008. 6. Hague Convention and Domestic ViolenceEdleson is also working with Associate Prof. Taryn Lindquist and Gita Mehrotra of the University of Washington and Sudha Shetty of the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute on a grant recently received from the National Institute of Justice to study battered mothers who have come with their children to the US for safety and then are accused in US courts of international child abduction. You can read more about this project at: http://www.haguedv.org/ 7. VAWnet Applied Research DocumentsEdleson and Associate Director Jennifer Witt are the editors of a series of concise, user-friendly research documents on domestic violence that are freely available online. They are developed to help those working to end domestic violence and sexual assault to understand the complex research around domestic violence. See the full collection of 44 documents at http://new.vawnet.org/category/index_pages.php?category_id=477 Recently published documents include: Assessment for Lifetime Exposure to Violence as a Pathway to Prevention, Emerging Responses to Children Exposed to Domestic Violence, and Marital Rape: New Research and Directions. 8. OVW TA Provider Calendar and DirectoryThrough a collaborative project with the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) the Center has recently developed two new tools to aid both OVW Technical Assistance Providers and OVW grantees in their work. The Online Events Calendar gives TA Providers and grantees the ability to easily view all upcoming events sponsored by OVW TA Providers. The Online Technical Assistance Provider Directory provides OVW, TA Providers, and grantees full organizational profiles and up-to-date contact information for each TA Provider project. Witt and Edleson presented these online tools to a national audience of technical assistance providers for the Office on Violence Against Women in Washington DC on August 21st. |
